I am looking forward to catching up on all things blog this afternoon.  For now, though, I have to make this semi-quick…

Friday night Jared started one of his weekend classes which leaves me home all night Friday night, and most of the day Saturday…

I stopped at Market District (South Hills) to grab some take-out…  I obliviously didn’t really know what I wanted…

So I got a small white chicken chili (a slight kick, but otherwise bland, a mixed salad (can’t go wrong), and three periogies (below, dry and bland) and mac and cheese (just okay).

I ended up pitching the chili, the perogies went to the dog, and the mac and cheese was pitched after half.

All in all, a fail considering how “foodie” the MD food-to-gos are supposed to be…

Saturday was date night.  I was so excited because despite how often Jared and I “do” things, none of them are really “date” type things.  I think I am feeling semi-inspired by Joe and Betsy’s Operation Newlyweds.  Though our actrivity wasn’t “new”, it was new for us because we had never done it together:  3-d Movie.

First though, we started at The Hop House.  I had gone to this place once for a business lunch after suggesting it.  I had drove by it several times to/from/around work and it peaked my curiosity…

I was craving a beer (the draft and bottle selection is rather extensive) so Jared and I chose the sampler.  We loved the hoppy East End Brewing, and the Sam Adams seasonal, and of course the Hoegaarden.  Yum.

We also split the soft pretzels which were delicious, and the picture doesn’t do this justice.  The pretzels were huge.  They came with honey mustard (standard) and a warm cheese-pepper dip (yum).

I got the chicken wrap which came with sprouts, avocado, lettuce, and tomato.  It was decent.  Jared got the half rack of ribs and always says the same thing “Yours (mine) are better”.  In all though, he really enjoyed the place.  It’s got a nice atmosphere.

I didn’t even finish my first half of wrap (I blame it on the pretzel and beer), and my side was sweet potato hash.  It was good, I wouldn’t order it again, though.

DSCN0785I think the best part of this place (though I haven’t seen it lit) is the outside patio.  I think it would provide great ambiance in the summer months.  Though it was warm enough yesterday that I wanted it to be on.  Would have been awesome.

Seeing a movie in 3D.  We went to The Hop House yesterday because we didn’t want to go to Fratallic Ranch.  We bought tickets for the 7:45 showing of Avatar.  After reading on a few blogs how terrible the movie was, I was reluctant, but the whole 3D concept really enticed me.  At least now I know I want to see Tim Burtons Alice in Wonderland in 3D.

Avatar was so long.  I mean, we didn’t get out of the theater until 10:45.  At one point in the movie, I thought it was heading towards the end.  Then an hour later it finally finished.  The graphics were neat, sure.  The seats at the new theater were comfy, sure.  The movie itself had a horrible plot line.  It was not for children because at one point I am pretty sure the two “aliens” were mating, and they were swearing, just to make it seem like you weren’t watching a cartoon.

I kept trying to fall asleep but it was so loud in the theater I couldn’t sleep.

The parking at Settlers Ridge is so poorly planned.  I mean, here is this huge retail complex with about half of the parking spaces available.   We had to park all the way at the other end of the place.  That didn’t bother me, but there is just not enough parking!

I’ve got a Guest Post to write today (whee), a trip to Giant Eagle, finish my laundry, and relaxation on the agenda.  I wanted to attempt to make some bread, but I think I will leave that up to the Big Bird to do for me =)

I’ll be back =)

Well, I’ve decided to keep the gym membership.  This is why & the promise I made to myself.  I will keep running outside, through the winter and use the gym as a supplement for mornings I don’t wake up, and a cheap way to get some cross training.  Let’s hope for the best

That said, I started off the day with a 45 minute spin class at the gym.  I opted to try this out as my Aunt raved about the teacher and I thought it would be a good opportunity to go.

I filled my water bottle (free!) with some O.N.E. Coconut Water as I know spin classes are intense.  It was half coconut water, half regular water.  The verdict?  Not bad.  It wasn’t as light as I would have hoped.  You have to like coconut to enjoy this water.  I think it’s a great alternative to Gatorade.  Enjoy it ICE COLD for the best experience.  I picked this up at Whole Foods yesterday as I am sure no grocers in the South Hills has this product.

After a good sweat session at spin, I ran to the grocery store & Jared and I got ready for our fall day-date to Soergel Orchard.  Wow, talk about packed to the gills with little kids, pumpkins, and other fun stuff.  Well, kids are fun, but there were a lot of kids.

DSCN0391The drive north, repeated from yesterday, was scenic and beautiful.  I love the pockets of color that the trees provide as the leaves change.

We were surprised that this Orchard/Farm was so close to the highway.  But I was pleased to find their little organic market.  It was cute, but way overpriced.  It was nice to see, though!

DSCN0394I mainly chose this place over Trax because somewhere (between the mess of people, kettle corn, and tractor) they had you-pick-flowers.  I never found the flowers, except between the pumpkins.

DSCN0395 Jared started to get cranky in the crowd, so we paused for a moment and had a snack.

DSCN0397I had a piece of roasted corn.  It was delish.  Yes, the paper plate got penetrated by butter.  Seriously, it was amazing.

So we walked amongst the pumpkin barrels and looked at all the fall bounty.

And, like lames, we picked our pumpkins out of the barrel, mainly because we didn’t have cash on us and I needed to go to an ATM.  I know, I know.

After we left, Jared’s crankiness left and we ran to Costco for some staples that I refuse to buy anywhere else: dog food, toilet paper, and crackers.

I enjoyed the rest of the afternoon hanging out.  I made a quick dinner adapted from this recipe.  It wasn’t totally white.  I added 2 jalapenos instead of green chilies, and just shredded the cheese on top instead of mixing in one cup.

DSCN0400Spicy, warm, and a great way to end my fall weekend.  I love that mug.  Expect to see it a lot during the warm months when I nuke soup for my go-to dinners.  I can’t wait!

How are you enjoying fall?

I love Mt. Washington. My father grew up in Mt. Washington (and definitely calls it Mt. Warshington).

I will drink my coffee some morning overlooking downtown Pittsburgh…

From this house! Yes indeed…

And my two neighbors in their charming mis-matched house will be friendly

Oh! A lovely panorama to put things in perspective*

The above are all dreams. But if you dream it, you can achieve it!
