Posts Tagged ‘Aladdin’s Eatery’

In my attempt to enjoy the rest of the weekend, I have turned the computer off (sorta), gotten some things taken care of (i hate laundry), and relaxed.  Though, here are a few photos to share with you all.

Jared and I ate at Aladdin’s!  Ah, seriously, everyone should see if they have an Aladdin’s near them, or attempt to vacation at a city that has one.  I love it.

DSCN0311 I had the same thing I always get (hummos appetizer, faffael salad pocket).  Jared tried the chicken curry wrap and (gasp), wasn’t a fan.  Though, the last two times we’ve been there, he’s been happy.

We made a trip to the bookstore.  I always get very overwhelmed at the bookstore because I always want a good book, but never know what to get…  I browsed the magazines, cookbooks, non-fiction, management, and finally went to the Sports/Running section.  They had two good books that I thought I would try, but then we decided to go to Half Price BooksYou never know what you are going to find there, so I was excited to go.

I got some great stuff, for $15!!

When I was in Philly for my old job, my sister recommended going to the White Dog Cafe.  She raved about it, so I decided to try.  Amazing.  I wish I had food-blogged it.  Ahhh, so good.  Local, organic, sustainable, yada yada yada.  I had the Organge Ginger Tofu and thought I had died and gone to fresh, healthy, yummy food heaven.  Seriously.  This will be my last meal.  I may go back to Philly, or make Jared and I stop there on the way to visit my sister over Thanksgiving.

Anyways.  When I was at another bookstore in Philly, I noticed their cookbook for sale.  I didn’t purchase it at the time, but haven’t forgotten about it.  Guess what I found last night!!

DSCN0314 Oh yes!  And it was only $8.  I am going to spend a few hours this week bookmarking the recipes.  I am sooo happy!

But wait, it gets better…

I have a collection going of cookbooks from Moosewood Restaurant, though I have never eaten there myself.  I absolutely love their recipes, as they are similar to White Dog in principal.  So I was thrilled to find this gem for $5.  It’s a little worn, and paperback, but that’s okay.

And I got this retro running book, which adds to my collection.   I was leafing through it during dinner, and I think I will post a “running tips” post sometime this week…  I’ve got several running books, and since I’m a dork, I enjoy them ;)

Oh!  and food.  I made apple bread this afternoon, and cibatta sammies for dinner.  Jared’s had steak, pepper, onion and fresh mozz.  Mine had pepper, onion, broc, and fresh mozz.  Delish!  Also, I scooped out most of the dough because I was crazing veggies like no other ;)

Enjoy the rest of Sunday!!

Jared agreed to do take-out Aladdin’s tonight! This is just what I needed to round-out the day. I am full and happy.

swag

Oh, here’s the stash I managed to grab while at the race. I still am feeling so-so about everything. I know one thing though, I bet I will not get a side stitch tomorrow when I go for my long run. I need to learn to be happy with what my body can do, good and bad…

Anyways….

When discussions around dinner came about, I knew I wanted a night off from cooking. I knew I didn’t want to go to a restaurant. knew I didn’t want traditional take-out. Jared suggested Aladdin’s! I have a great boyfriend. I gladly obliged. I was excited.

We ordered hummus to share. I got my usual falaffel salad pocket, and Jared had the Turkey Salad Pocket.

Our spread. Ambrose doesn’t like hummus. We are relaxed and rarely eat at the dining room table.
saturday dinner 2

My favorite item at Aladdin’s. Falaffel, mixed greens, veggies, feta. Sometimes dipped in the tahini.

Sometimes, I use the top of the pita to dip into the hummus and use the bottom “salad remnants” to fold up and eat with the hummus. At this point, though, I am usually full.

We also had mini-baklava for dessert. Jared’s never had baklava. He enjoyed it!

Whoo hoo!  I am so happy that it is Friday, you don’t even know!!  I am ready to go for a run(!) in about an hour or so and looking forward to the weekend

I will not be one of the masses at the Healthy Living Summit but I still have a fun weekend planned…

Tonight:
Jared and I will go to Aladdin’s in Mt. Lebanon…
Laundry and other boring/relaxing stuff

Saturday:
10 mile run (I honestly cannot wait!)
Trader Joes (need to stock up on nummies)

Sunday:
Jared’s mom may visit
Cleaning (before the visit of corse!)

What about everyone else? Any plans?

My last post, I described Aladdin’s Eatery. My favorite restaurant, ever!

Aladdin’s Eateries feature distinctive rolled pita sandwiches, pita pockets, and “Pitza’s” made with homemade pita bread. The pita bread contains no fat, cholesterol, or oil. No sulfites or preservatives are used. Only fresh vegetables and meats appear on the menus. Over seventy menu items are Vegetarian or Vegan. Imported olive oil is used for both homemade salad dressings and saute’s. Aladdin’s Eatery offers twelve varieties of natural herb teas without artificial flavoring or preservatives. Juices are squeezed to order to ensure maximum freshness. In addition to the best tasting Lebanese/American food, Aladdin’s Eateries also offer the unique “Smoothies,” a tantalizing blend of fresh fruits and juices.

I enjoy Aladdin’s because 1.) I have a lot of options (instead of a veggie burger, or some iceberg lettce salad); 2.) Everything is so fresh; 3.) I never get indigestion(!); 4.) Their environment is awesome.

But since Jared is meat n taters, I didn’t think he’d like it…

Ignore the face, he loved the hummos plate I mandated for an appetizer! It came with fresh pita and veggies. Nummy.

Then I ordered the Faffael Salad Pita. I tore off the Pita (and saved for later hummus consumption). The salad came with a yogurt dressing, which I ignored because it didn’t need it. It came with three faffael patties, mixed greens, tomato, carrots, and feta. It was divine. I ate all of the salad, 2.5 of the faffael, and left the other half of the pita.

Jared had beef tenderloin kebob and raved about it, but then wondered where his sticks were haha. I told him kebob is typically a style of cooking meat & veggies, and doesn’t necessarily imply skewers =)

After dinner, we went to the mall to get his iPhone. I was sad to see that the iPod store was closed due to technical difficulties, so we walked around a bit… We stumbled into Macys and I snagged these bad boys for $12! Yes, the blue plate is Feista Ware. I got the large oval platter for $7 (reg. $21). I want to start a collection of mismatched items. This will be great for that. This takes my total pieces up to two haha
